Look, I’m taking pictures of food. Somewhere, right now, another blog is making fun of me.
It’s worth it though. This delicious thing right here is what I like to call a “meat pillow,” full of tasty dreams. In reality-land it’s called a five spice pork belly steamed bao from Banh Mi Boys. Look at it. Do it. It looks like a clam that got a pork salad stuffed inside its little clam mouth. This hilarious presentation adds to my sensory enjoyment of the meal.
Once you bite into one, you’ll find that it’s quite similar to eating a pork chop, a steamed bun and a taco all at the same time, which you’ve probably never done or thought you would ever do. I haven’t, so I thoroughly enjoyed the novel experience.
Those yellow circles in there are called pickled radishes. Due to my ignorance and the sound of the name, I was not excited about the idea of having pickled radishes inside my $3.49 investment. However, it turns out that I would probably love to eat a steamed bao with just pickled radishes.
